Emotional problems, also known as psychological trauma, can result following an injury in a workplace. These types of injuries are common following any serious injury but can be worse following larger-scale accidents, particularly those involving car accidents, explosions, train accidents, and plane accidents. Explosions in the workplace can contribute result in emotional problems or psychological trauma as well.

When a person experience psychological trauma, he or she may experience a variety of emotional responses to whatever event or injury that triggered or caused the trauma. In severe cases, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may result. When PTSD occurs, the traumatized person's brain experiences a change, chemically, that results in a completely new set of responses to previously common stimuli.

Treatment for emotional problems varies from person to person and with exactly what the problem is. For people experiencing symptoms of depression, it may be possible to counteract these symptoms with counseling or medication alone. Some problems rely more heavily on counseling or talking with a doctor. Medication is not always the solution. In some cases, time is the best medicine.

When a person is injured in an accident at work that claims many other lives, there may be irrepressible feelings of guilt or other similar emotions related to wondering why an accident "only" injured them while it claimed the lives of others. Anger may also be associated with a traumatic event and is another type of emotional problem associated with psychological trauma. In all situations, it is a good idea to seek professional help to get past the trauma and move on with life.
