A Missouri school bus driver was recently awarded more than $300,000 in workman's comp benefits to compensate her for injuries sustained when she fell during the course of her employment. The bus driver experienced injuries to her head, neck, and back falling a fall down the stairs of her bus.

The school bus driver in question was responsible for cleaning her bus. Part of the cleaning she was required to perform was removing the trash from the bus and sweeping. One day, while emptying the trash basket that was at the front of the bus, the bus driver lost her balance and fell down the stairs of the bus. She was unable to complete the route that day and was sent for medical attention shortly afterwards.

In arguments regarding the woman's injuries, the school district maintained that the back injuries weren't related to the fall down the stairs, but were a previously existing condition. The school district lost the argument and was ordered to cover her medical expenses plus set aside funds for her future medical expenses.
